Mil gracias por este post, porque tiene toda la razΓ³n, nunca es tarde. Siempre hay tiempo para reaccionar y redescubrir el camino que queremos transitar!
This is a powerful mindset shift for me. The more I read pieces like this, the more I believe that I am where I am meant to be in life. Thank you for this affirmation!
I'm 48 and I'm finally getting a grasp on what I want to do for the rest of my life. Things were okay at my good government job, but I see my life getting so much better the closer I get to filling up that bookcase.
Not 40 yet, but at 37 I'm not making the Forbes 30 under 30 either. I love the mindset shift of not being late, just figuring things out. I feel like that never stops. Here's hoping I too can get paid to write full time by the time I hit the big 4-0! Thank you for the lovely article as always.
Veronica, this piece resonates so deeply! Your words are a refreshing reminder that life is not a race, and that embracing new beginnings, no matter when they happen, is a sign of growth and courage. I love how you highlight the power of starting fresh and pursuing dreams without being tethered to age or societal timelines.
Your story of reclaiming your narrative after 40 is incredibly inspiring and full of vibrant energyβlike the butterflies you mention. Keep chasing them, and thanks for showing the rest of us that itβs never too late to set sail toward new horizons. π«ππ³
November 6, 1940, says I'm creeping up on eighty-four. After an eclectic education career of music, reading, and Mountainview Music Piano Studio, I retired and started writing on Medium and my website. My first book will be published this month (exact date soon.) Success is in your own perception at whatever age. Of course, age may only be a number, if it's your number, it has significance to you. Make every day, month, and year your best!
Thank you, Veronica! I'm excited, happy, and a bit overwhelmed at being an inspiration to you. You inspire me and countless others as well. You can't wait to see what I create next? Me too! What a blessing it is to have the ability to create!

Nunca es tarde pero a veces nos creamos una pelΓcula en nuestra cabeza que nos impide empezar un camino nuevo.
This is a powerful mindset shift for me. The more I read pieces like this, the more I believe that I am where I am meant to be in life. Thank you for this affirmation!
Absolutely, Mimi: you are where you are meant to be so your opportunity is now. Cheers!

Thereβs always so much room to grow and expand, right?
I find that writing opens a new world full of possibilities.
You got this, Susie!
Being 40 myselfβ¦and just getting started in many ways, I appreciate this post. Blessings!
Awesome and welcome to the 4th floor ;)

Awesome, Charlie!
Cheers to your goal of turning your passion into your lifestyle!
I hadn't even started to write at 37 so you are a few steps ahead π

Awesome, Joshua!
I feel the same way and it's great to see people growing and creating regardless of their age.
I am in my mid-40s and honestly feel the most empowered I have felt. I finally feel like I am building something now. Its a very exciting time.
That's brilliant, Laura, and I feel the same way.
It's great to see age as something empowering and not a barrier.
What's the most exciting thing you are working on?
A fellow mid-lifer and I are working on building a hub for women of our age - a space where woman can connect, share stories, meet up etc.
I'm in my 40s, too. And I feel I'm late.
But I'm still fighting.
Actually, I think I spent too long conforming to the expectations of other people. I got closer to my real self only after 35.
Defnitely not late, Alberto, the best is yet to come!
I think for me it was starting my own thing and my career on my terms what really got me closer to my real self.
Focusing on one goal and willing to put in the effort for that is what we all need.
Plus, it requires us to stay:
-Disciplined
-Consistent
-Resilient
-Patient
This is what helps you grow in the long run.
Also, believing in yourself never fails to bring you amazing results.
That's exactly the way I see it too, Piotr.
You can't undermine the importance of soft skills - the hard skills can be learned.
Squarely middle-aged, I'm a "rookie again" as well! I've fully embraced this new beginning and am excited to see what Derek 2.0 will accomplish.
Derek 2.0 has the right mindset to achieve amazing things!
Being a rookie is awesome - I'm up for it ;)

Thank you so much!
It was honestly inspired by my own coaching clients who are in their 60s, 70s and even 80s.
They are the ones who showed me that age is not a barrier but a badge of experience. I'm following their steps.
Cheers!
Iβm on the 4th floor too. The view is much better from here. This was a great read. Count me in βπ»
Haha, we get the best views here, don't we?
You are in: let's plant lemon trees!

I've been feeling blue lately about so many things. Thank you so much Veronica for sharing this reassuring article!
I'm so happy it found you - it was meant to be!
Ouff. Was feeling flat and a little "really? Do I keep going?" today...much. much needed. Thank you xo
How awesome, Antonia!
I believe that sometimes we get signs from the universe and we have to follow them.
It was meant to be: yes, you keep going! ;)

Thank you Gopal!

That's so exciting, Judith and thank you for sharing your story and defying the social narrative around age.
All the best with your book and can't wait to see what you create next!
