Spoiler alert: I won’t make the Forbes 40 under 40.
That ship has sailed for good and guess what…the pressure is off.
In fact, there are many things I didn’t do until after I reached the 4th floor: start writing, create a business, speak in podcasts, publish a book, launch a newsletter, speak at a book fair…
My plan is to grow this list much bigger and keep ticking boxes and dreams as I blow my “ageless” candles.
I always thought I would have everything figured out by now.
But I would be a fool if I had.
Here I am, a rookie again, making sense of the world around me, starting a new career, exploring new passions, and embracing the beginner’s mindset.
Hungry for life.
Curious about the unknown.
Welcoming new possibilities or creating them from scratch.
I used to think I was late but now I think I’m right where I need to be.
Exploring an unchartered path following a bright North Star.
Enjoying the butteflies in the stomach every time I speak on stage.
Connecting the dots of these disparate experiences we call life.
Learning to unlearn.
Breaking molds.
We don’t need the 40s to be the new 30s or the new anything.
We don’t need boxes, labels and dictionary definitions to decide what we can or can’t do.
It’s up to you to put your stamp on your journey.
Make it wild, messy and fun, and sign it with a bold unapologetic signature no one can forge because it’s uniquely yours.
I don't know if age is just a number but what I do know is that it’s a mental anchor for most - and it shouldn’t be.
If you are feeling too old to start something new, embark on a new journey or pave a new path, don’t.
Embrace your new beginning, your ground zero and your virgin starting line.
Get rid of that heavy anchor so that you can keep chasing your butterflies.
Be an apprentice in life and an apprentice for life.
Lemons & Lemonade 🍋
I only started my new path as a writer and public speaker at the sweet age of 41.
Now, I get paid for what I love doing.
If you would like to start something new, my book, The Lemon Tree Mindset gives you a mindset framework and to find your North Star…and keep going.

November 6, 1940, says I'm creeping up on eighty-four. After an eclectic education career of music, reading, and Mountainview Music Piano Studio, I retired and started writing on Medium and my website. My first book will be published this month (exact date soon.) Success is in your own perception at whatever age. Of course, age may only be a number, if it's your number, it has significance to you. Make every day, month, and year your best!
Excellent overview and sentiments Veronica. I'm in my 40s too and finally feeling things come together.
My 20s and 30s were so tough and full of angst, which has taken time to shift and rebuild. But that's given me the experiences and perspective I have now.
Every lesson is worth learning if you take that wisdom with you.
