As an extroverted writer, I do need people and like to be around others, but I also appreciate my quiet time and silence. Very interesting post though!
You express my own experience with introversion perfectly. The part about not sharing or needing to be interrogated is spot on. That fact often gets me into trouble - not being communicative enough, even with those nearest and dearest to me. It's never intentional. It's just my mind has already moved on to the next thing.
It's so true, so often we already moved on but others don't know what's going on inside our minds...It's a good reminder to be intentional and not assume that people know.
Yes, there is a lot of me time but for creativity and ideation, that's how many of us thrive. For me, it's important to counterbalance it and find ways to socialize and connect with others. Balance is key.
Most people actually are. You can take personality test (I took the MBTI years ago) to get a better sense of where you sit on the spectrum but most people are a mix and tend to flex depending on the context and environment.
I was predominantly an extrovert a few years ago, then I took the MBTI recently and now I'm apparently predominantly an introvert... which happened to coincide with me starting to write on the internet. Hypothesis confirmed? 😅
I'm an introvert who is a wanna-be extrovert but just can't do it. I think in business, that does hold you (OK, me) back from opportunities. A balance would be better, at least for me.
Love the flow and introspective take on this. Though I believe that the majority of writers are introverts, this text makes me want to write a stack named Why Extroverts Make Good Writers.
I still can't believe I get to spend everyday writing in peace. I use to work in busy offices, wasting so much energy on speaking with colleagues that my weekends needed to be spent silently recharging. I had no energy to socialise or be around the people I actually loved. Being a writer is the best job I've ever had.
Thank you, Nia! Most people are actually a mix between introverts and extroverts, rather than just one or the other. It's great to be able to flex depending on the circumstances.
I am a fellow introvert and it is both a blessing and a nightmare.
My silence in groups have often been mistaken for lacking empathy, loss of interest, non-productive and I could go on.
But the best part is when the critique fades and silence turn on those who have given the critique, when the results from my work and actions arrive.
As an introvert, I couldn't agree more.
My mind is always thinking, processing and analyzing everything and anything.
Curating a 1000 ideas and running them up.

Great🎉🎉

Thank you for sharing your perspective too.

It's true. But many times introvert have to live alone with his deep creation.

What if I am a bit of both?

Hahaha, kaboom, my thesis works!
I also took the test and was in the middle with a preference toward introvert.
Most people are actually a mix with a tendency rather than a 100% one or the other.
I found the MBTI fascinating and it helped me have more self-awareness.

Agree, Chris, that being able to flex is a skill, as you need the introverted side for certain situations such as networking, meeting new people, etc.
I like to say that I'm an introvert by nature and an extrovert by (lack of) choice ;)

Hahaha, sounds like a great stack many would subscribe to ;)
I'm sure there are some great extroverts too but I would imagine they prefer other formats such as videos for instance.

I can totally relate to this.
I now work from home, mostly with my dog around. When people ask me if I feel lonely, I don't. I feel at peace, lol!
I love being an introvert. I'm comfortable being me. It wasn't always this way, but I now know who I am. Thanks Veronica!
That's the key, Tarek, embracing who you are and being comfortable in your skin. I'm glad you liked the article.
Good insights, though I hate being labelled !!!
Agree, labellling does no good. For me it's more about having self-awareness and embracing your true self.
I absolutely loved this description!!!! To write, here on Substack is an absolute healing for my introvert soul
Writing is definitely healing. We can share our thoughts and ideas without being interrupted.
Loved this. As a card carrying introvert, I definitely found myself nodding to lots of this!!!!

Yes!!!! I don't have a resting bitch face! I am actually thinking about the story of a cute bitch I saw on street.
Hey Mat, here it is
