What If No One Shows Up?
Fears and limiting beliefs before my first webinar
“What if no one shows up?”
That was the fear that kept me from hosting my first live webinar on Substack.
Although I have spoken in over 50 podcasts and conferences, the thought of finding myself alone in front of a screen, talking to myself, was paralyzing.
What if it’s a failure?
What if I am a failure?
I bet you have those thoughts, too. We all do at some point.
I decided to ignore the self-sabotaging voices, and on 28 May, I hosted my first webinar on the topic of self-publishing.
Only 6 people showed up live. Many would be embarrassed about that number, but I was proud: that was my beginning, my journey, my ground zero.
We all start somewhere, and your starting line is something worth celebrating.
Since then, 35 subscribers upgraded in one month. Ironically, the same thing that terrified me was the top catalyst for my growth.
Courage is on the other side of fear.
I was asking the wrong question:
What if no one one person shows up?
That’s what an abundance mindset looks like: impacting one person at a time.
When my mom opened her restaurant in the Canary Islands 12 years ago, some days, she barely had any customers. Yet she always had everything ready: the tables were carefully decorated, the food was prepared, and light music played in the background.
She would wait by the door, impeccably dressed, acting as if she were the host of a fine-dining restaurant in a fancy capital. It didn’t matter if only 2 customers came or if she had a full house.
Her mindset and attitude were the same: she was ready to give 100% to whoever would take it. Today, it’s the most successful restaurant on the island.
Be ready to show up
Whatever you are building, you must be ready to show up.
Every single time.
In 2023, a few weeks after I launched my Substack, I had my first paid subscriber. It took me by surprise, but I decided to step up my game and start publishing exclusive articles. For weeks in a row, I wrote for one person: my 1 paid subscriber.
I didn’t slack.
I didn’t miss my appointment.
I kept showing up for one person.
Then, others came: 2, 10, and today I have 80.
One day I might will have thousands of subscribers, but it all started with one.
The power of one
Be ready to show up and talk to a silent wall.
Be willing to go on stage and perform in front of an empty room.
Host your best show even if only one person turns up.
Next time you hesitate about doing something, ask yourself,
What if one person shows up?
Wear your best gala, hold your head up, and give your best confident smile.
Perform as if the stage was full because one day, it will be.
I don’t know who will show up, but I will.

I ran my 1st online free drawing session last week and only 1 person showed up (my mum and my son were there too!) I ran the session and I learned so much even just having one person there.
I only have 4 paid subscription members at the moment, they’re not very active but I’m showing up for them just as I said I would.
Thank you for this essay, perfectly timed!
Impacting one person at a time is absolutely the way to go. Thank you for sharing this! 💛
