Where to play?
How many platforms should you tackle?
Where is the best place to build your brand?
Is there a right or wrong?
Analysis paralysis hits you, and you start second-guessing everything.
Writers and creators are killing it across these platforms, but you must make sure you pick the right one for you.
Today, we discuss how.
Finding your formula
Everyoneβs experience is different, and I challenge you to create a digital ecosystem that works for you and plays to your strengths.
After 1.5 years of creating online, Iβve built a digital trifecta across 3 platforms:
LinkedIn helps me generate leads and opportunities for public speaking, podcasts, and interviews.
Medium is where I experiment and develop my writing skills.
Substack enables me to build a more intimate relationship with my community.
This is what works for me, and together, they help me grow faster.
Some people choose to concentrate their efforts on one platform, while others tackle up to 10. I found 3 to be my magic number, but you have to find your answer.
Below are some pointers to help you choose your platforms smartly so that you can play to win by maximizing your strengths and leveraging your advantages.
1. Build on your strengths
What is your favorite format to communicate?
Are you better on camera or behind the scenes?
Do you have a sexy, irresistible voice?
Are you a better speaker or writer?
Do a self-assessment and let your strengths and passions guide your strategy.
- For long-form writing, Medium or Substack are better suited.
- If you are great with pictures and imagery, IG or Pinterest are great.
- If you thrive in front of a camera, YouTube or TikTok might be the place for you.
- If you like more conversational, snackable content, LinkedIn or X are ideal.
- If you have a great narrator voice, launch your podcast.
Do an audit and ensure you are on the right platform and dial up your strengths.
I initially struggled on LinkedIn because I was posting full essays on a platform that favors speed and conversation. I then switched my strategy:
I write short posts on LinkedIn and turn them into Medium or Substack articles and vice-versa. That helps me create synergies and grow faster across my ecosystem.

Donβt fall for the flavor of the month.
π¬ Pick the channel that suits you best.
2. Be where they are
Where are your ideal customers, readers, and competitors?
Keep your friends close, keep your readers closer.
When I became active on X, I targeted corporate clients for my workshops and public speaking. It was a huge failure. My ideal audience was not there, and I was talking to the wrong public. I didnβt get a single lead.

LinkedIn on the other hand is where I can talk to, appeal and even connect with my target clients: Heads of HR, CEOs and People Leads.
Donβt waste time planting seeds in the wrong land. Focus your energy where you can go beyond likes and followers. They are nice for your ego, but they donβt pay the bills.
π¬ Get in front of your potential customers.
3. Pick a low-barrier to entry channel
If you want to tackle a new platform, pick the low-hanging fruit π
