The Lemon Tree Mindset🌳🍋 Lesson 19: Be Intentionally Positive
Becoming the most positive person in the room
Celebrating 🎉
This is the last lesson of The Lemon Tree Mindset. It’s about positivity, and coincidentally, this week, my books were launched in the bookstore BOOKAZINE in Hong Kong. I celebrated it on LinkedIn, and the post went a bit viral. You can read it here.
If you missed the previous lessons or want to review them, I have unlocked them so that you can read them for free here.
The Lemon Tree Mindset is the journey I followed to reinvent myself in 2022. 10 months ago, I was unemployed, didn’t have a network, and was feeling lost. Today, I’m a freelance consultant, my network is 10K+ strong, I have published 3 books (1 co-authored), I speak at events, and I’m nominated for a regional award as Diversity Lead of The Year in Asia.
It all started with the mindset and believing that I had value to add and a story to tell.
I want to help you plant your own lemon tree 🌳🍋
Being positive is a choice
The journey of change, transformation, and reinvention is a bumpy road. There will be moments of self-doubt, rejection, and negative thinking. It’s normal to experience all these feelings, particularly if you are leaving a place of comfort to venture into something new where you are taking risks.
Instead of focusing on the risk and the potential downside, shift all that energy into the possibilities, the tomorrow mentality, the first dollar, the what if. Put into practice all the other mental strategies you have learned in previous lessons to plant your own lemon tree. Remind yourself that planting trees is a laborious task that requires patience and care, and be kind to yourself.
Being positive is not a state of mind, it’s a deliberate act. It requires to set an intention, and consciously decide that the glass is half full. The best way to do so is by setting up the tone for the day. You have the power to set your mind up for success. By verbally saying, “Today is going to be a great day,” “I am going to make things happen,” you are creating a positive framework of how you are going to navigate through your day.
You won’t have control over the things that happen to you, but by placing yourself in the driver’s seat, you are in charge.
Never underestimate the power of positive thinking and how it’s a catalyst for positive outcomes.
My Story
Throughout the years, I have created a personal routine that helps me set up my day for success. This is what it looks like:
I wake up at sunrise after at least 7 hours of sleep
I do a passive stretching session using the Pliability app
I enjoy a cup of black coffee while setting an intention for the day
I reflect on what I’m grateful for: family, health, life
I tell myself, today is going to be a great day
I also developed my own personal statement:
“Today is going to be a great day. I am going to give my 100%. I am going to pause to appreciate the big things and the small things. I am grateful for what I have and the people around me. I’m grateful to be here.”
Exercise: set up the tone for your day
Create a morning routine
Establish a simple routine to help you set a positive tone for the day. Try to incorporate some gentle stretch for the body and a moment of self-reflection that includes gratitude.
Write your personal statement
Write down your own positive mindset statement and keep it somewhere where you can revisit it when you are feeling down or demotivated.
